I hope it enlightens every one who watches it be it a blind supporter or those who stand their grounds despite the dangers they face in doing so.

In Libya, Africa's "Mad Dog", and The Middle East Master Terror Engine is cornered

By Bamba Mass, UK

Referred to as "the Mad Dog" of Africa by former president Ronald Regan of United States of American, Col. Mommar Al Gaddafi, Arab World's cruellest tyrant, seem to be cornered as change swept across the Middle East. With Reports of the cities including Benghazi falling to the democratic regime change demonstrators on late Sunday and reports that capital Tripoli might follow suit in a matter of time, one need to look at Libya under the Mad Dog at a glance.

Compiled by Bamba Mass Human Rights Activist (UK) Coming to power on the 1st September 1969 after toppling King Idris in a bloodless coup while the later was on a medical treatment in Turkey, Young Colonel Mommar Gaddafi soon asserted himself as an absolute ruler over the Libyan people diving the country along tribal lines so as unity for a possible threat would be difficult. Gaddafi's revolution started in Benghazi while he was at the city's military college. Free Officers Movement founded by Gaddafi brought him to power and he was made chairman of the RCC. He claimed to have been a descendant of the Nations' most renowned national Hero "The Lion of the Desert" Omar Mukthar, who led a stiff resistance movement during the Italian invasion a claim said to be totally false. It is claimed though they both hailed from the same town of Sirte which at one time was groomed as a potential
new Capital.

Since His bloodless coup, Africa and the rest of the world knew no peace. His activities during the early 70s to the 80s had alarmed the entire Continent who first hailed him as a young reformist. He turned Africa any how he feels using his vast oil wealth to his advantage bullying less prosperous nations at will.

In September 1976, he moved his troops across the borders of Algeria, Chad and Niger producing a map in which he showed a 52,000 square mile of territory from the above named countries and claimed they were original territories of Libya. Algeria and Niger who feared Gaddafi took no action but Chad did and closed its border with Libya. The "Mad Dog" wasted no time in dealing with the Chadians. He claimed the ouzo strip in Chad belong to Libya thus annexing it with little resistance. That was not enough for Chad.

Chad 1979
In 1979 Gaddafi poked his nose into Chad. He backed Hissene Habre topple president Malloum despite the president backed by French forces in Chad and since then after falling out with Habre, Chad knew no peace.2,000 to 3,000 Libyan soldiers were on the ground refusing to leave thus aiding militias under Gougouni Oudaie. When Oudaie failed to succeed after tens of thousands Chadians civilians and military deaths. Even at that the "Mad Dog" never gave up. He was to topple Habre as well replacing him with Idris Derby in 1990.

Ethiopia

The "Mad Dog" was the main financier of the Ethiopian dictator Col. Mengestho who also got aids from his government and USSR. Mengestho butchered his people and killed an estimated 20,000 Eritrean secessionist with Gaddafi's backing despite Ethiopia a Christian and Eritrea mostly Gaddafi's fellow Muslims. Gaddafi has no friends or foes he is like a chameleon changing sides at will; He is as he sees himself an African equivalent of America, a supper power and no nation in Africa can dare challenge him. He uses Eritrea against Ethiopia and visa/visa arming both to kill each other and also arming the Somalians against each other even to date. A master tactician and brutal, Gaddafi had acted wisely like his arch rivals America by using his diplomatic offices to channel funds for insurgencies in Africa and Asia.

Tunisia

Gaddafi sent 80 Libyan personals in to Gofsa town near the capital Tunis to aid rebels trying to topple then Tunisian president Bourguiba.

Morocco and then Senegal

In 1979 Gaddafi helped fund the new movement the POLISARIO FRONT in the Western Sahara against the Moroccan regime financing them and training their personals. When the matter came to the open, he withdrew his aid leaving the secessionist to dry. Later that year President Senghor of Senegal accused him of trying to overthrow him. Senegal broke off diplomatic ties with Libya. Gambia backed Senegal condemning Gaddafi.

The Gambia 1981

The mad Dog never forgave Sir Dawda Jawara for exposing him. He was bent on punishing him hard. While Jawara was in London attending the royal wedding of Prince Charles to late princess Diana, Gaddafi sent one of his Al- Mathaba trained Gambians Kukoi Samba Sanyang who staged a coup and formed a National Revolution Council consisting of taxi drivers and some few ex field force officers mainly from his ethnic Jola tribe. Jawara flew back to Senegal the new successor to Senghor, Abdu Joof with plea from Britain aided and returned him back to power thus trashing the coup less than a week Kukoi fled back to his boss" the Mad Dog". Gambia cut off diplomatic ties with Libya and refused to attend the OAU meeting scheduled to take place in Libya in 1982 thus depriving Gaddafi from becoming Chairman of the Union the subsequent year backed by many other African countries.

Jawara would pay later for angering Gaddafi again. 12 years after young soldiers staged a coup under Yahya Jammeh toppling Jawara's nearly 30 years grip on power. There was an international sanctions and Jammeh's regime would have collapsed but for Gaddafi who saw his chance and stepped in dashing millions to the young soldiers and also aiding the young regime consolidate its grip on power immensely by providing training of young militias called the green Boys who were sent to his terrorist training Camp for the defence of the Junta. The Gambian regime to say thank you named one of the drives in Banjul from Arch 22 through NIA office towards RVTH as Col. Gaddafi Drive. Gaddafi's anchor man a Gambian in the Name of Baba K. Jobe was sent to help the Junta in Banjul money was abundant and after the Junta used Mr. Jobe who helped strengthened their grip on power, Jobe was betrayed and Jailed for economic crimes. Now Gambians are feeling the whip of the Mad Dog.

Uganda

Gaddafi's trained terrorist Yoweri Moseveni who is now president of Uganda after the "Mad Dog" financed and trained all of Moseveni and his guerrilla war against Milton Obote leading to the overthrow of the later. The man had been in power ever since butchering his people and ruling with an iron fist just like his master Boy Nar.

Liberia and then Sierra Leone

Of the entire Continent of Africa, the Liberian and Sierra Leonean civilians suffered most from the "Mad Dog's" poisonous brutal bites Gaddafi on Africans inside Africa. The Libyan People's Bureau in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso was turned to a base for Libyan backed Charles Tailor to enable him topple the regime of Master Sergeant Samuel K. Doe of Liberia. Doe who overthrew William Tolbert and killed his entire family including Tolbert's son Adolphus Tolbert who was at the time also a son in law to President Boigny of Ivory Coast, had angered the Ivorian leader who never forgave him and Boy Nar who helped Doe overthrew Tolbert, also fell out with him when Doe resumed relations with his country's former colonial master America. Both were looking for ways to punish Doe and when Tailor who was said to have escaped from an American prison came to Burkina Faso, he got all the aid he could wish for from both Libya and Ivory Coast. Burkina Faso under Captain Blaise Campaure who Gaddafi had backed earlier with the help of the then Ivorian Dictator president Boigny to topple and kill the Much Loved president Captain Thomas Sankara (Tailor and Prince Johnson were both said to have played a part in that assassination).

On the 24th December 1989, about 150 Libyan trained machineries crossed from Ivory Coast in to Nimba County Liberia butchering the khran and Mandingo tribes who were allied with the Doe regime and recruiting loads of the Gio tribes who had suffered during the Doe regime into their newly formed National Patriotic Liberation Front (NPLF) under Charles Tailor. There was chaos and human suffering and the regional bloc ECOWAS was quick sending in a peace keeping force called ECOMOG under a General Aquino, a Ghanaian. Gaddafi was also quick to create a separate faction under Prince
Johnson thus escalating the war further.

Doe was captured and brutally murdered on camera by forces loyal to Prince Johnson under the watchful eye of ECOMOG. There was international outcry and the reputation of ECOMG came under fire exactly what Gaddafi wanted. ECOMOG acted quickly by replacing Aquino with no nonsense Nigerian General Dogonyaro who quickly resorts to safeguarding the capital. The damage had been done with loads of people fleeing to neighbouring Guinea Conakry. ECOMOG also tried to beat Tailor in his own game by arming his arch opponents Khran and Mandingos into civil defences. The creation of ULIMO came into force but that too was ill effective as the force later divide under ethnic lines with ULIMO-J of the khran tribe under Roosevelt Johnson while the ULIMO-K of the Mandingo tribe came under Alhagie Koroma both later attacking each other something typical of Africa.

Under Tailor was also another Libyan trained maniac Foday Sankor and under Gaddafi's advice, the war was further widened when Sankor and his gang of bandits cross Liberia into the Diamond mines of the Kono District of Sierra Leone waging war against the regime of Joseph Mommoh. They called their unit the Revolutionary United Front (RUF). Sankor was even more ruthless than Tailor, recruiting child soldiers and drugged them into murdering Machines. There were hideous reports of crimes of human amputations of limbs by the RUF and civilians were made to wear prints of RUF on their bodies marked by hot knife and other objects. Mommoh later fled to Guinea when the soldiers overthrew him and installed in Captain Strasser who inturn was
deposed by his juniors things turned ugly Jonny Paul Koroma invited the RUF to join him form a government of national unity. Rebels overran Freetown with brutality miming people at will.

To cut a long story short RUF was finally marginalised and before he could pay for his crimes Sankor died thus depriving Sierra Leoneans receiving Justice. Now his junior master Charles Tailor was now appearing before the War crimes in The Hague facing crimes against the people of Sierra Leone but observers are still asking questions why Gaddafi has never been call to account for any of the massacre of Liberians and Sierra Leoneans when it was common knowledge he was the main financier of the wars?

OIL must have played a lot in Gaddafi's continuous stay in power for over 40 years only last year he was AU chairman. The west too had their fair share from the mad dog and when African countries including the Gambia under then president Jawara decided to boycott the supposed OAU meeting in Tripoli, Gaddafi was infuriated with rage and accused those countries of being stooges of American imperialist . He vowed to deal with the Western Imperialist. He persuaded or twisted the hands of some African Countries like Mali, Niger, Congo, Togo, Uganda, Gambia and Senegal to cut off diplomatic ties with Israel America's principal ally in the Middle East.

In 1973 he threatened to boycott OAU if the Organisation's Head Quarters was moved out of Ethiopia which he accused of supporting Israel aggressions against the Arabs. Ethiopia was convinced to join the rest of other African states condemning Israel. Gaddafi became a respected symbol for third world countries that saw him stand up to America. In a speech to the Jamahiriya in 1984, he was said to have told audience that Libyans are the defenders of the defenceless and they are capable of carrying terrorism to the heart of America. Libyans who go to Europe and refuse to go back
were targeted and gunned down by Libyan hit- squads.

When there was Libyan student demonstration outside the Libyan People's Bureau in London on the 17th April 1984, demonstrators tore into the Embassy tearing the Libyan green flag. Police were called and there was a shot out of the Embassy that killed WPC Yvonne Fletcher. Britain retaliated by besieging the Embassy for 10 days only to allow Embassy staff to return back to Libya under diplomatic immunity.Diplomatic ties was suspended but Britain failed to indict Gaddafi and continued to do business with him as usual as if nothing happened. Later He did compensated the WPC'S Family with cash and Diplomatic tires were restured.

But the "Mad Dog" was to cause more shuck when in 1986 after America bombed Libya and Gaddafi retaliated two years after causing terror in Europe. A Pan-American flight 103 which was flying over Lockerbie Scotland was bombed down killing 270 people mostly Americans. Realising his deeds was not welcomed by anyone he denied knowledge and refused to hand over suspects over the bombing. Sanctions were imposed and Libya was declared as sponsored of terrorism. Gaddafi retaliated by calling America the greatest terrorist state and told Britain to go to hell. He was also accused to have links to bombings in Berlin in 1986 This renowned Terrorist more vicious than Bin Laden, seem to get away with everything. He got forgiven by the West and America because he has in abundant what they can't do without Oil.

Libya was again welcomed back into the internationalcommunity because of its Oil and not because there was any democratic reforms in Libya. Al megrahit who serving life sentence for the Lockerbie bombing was finally released from prison on grounds of not expected to live long which turned out to be false. Britain which played a part was awarded oil deals and even American is now said to be close with the onetime "Mad dog". Nouri Al Asmari onetime a member of Gaddafi's inner circles also deserted him and spoke to Aljazeera defying his former and calling him a brutal dictator and said he
is with the people not Gaddafi.

God was watching and counting his days. Now, Gaddafi faces his worst night mare, a challenge to his leadership from within. A man whose personal wealth is estimated to be around 72 billion had his own family run Libya for the past 40 years as his own house. A man who had more 60billion purchased arms from Russia and Europe including Britain has enough arsenals to quell the uprising with force which there is little doubt he would not do.

His own chosen diplomats, ministers and some army officers start deserting him, and he has only the gun and hired machineries to cling on to. He could be heard ranting on Libyan State TV just like a "Mad Dog" he really is shouting defiantly calling on his supporters to take to the streets to confront the demonstrators and ordered military and police headed by his sons to clean the streets off protesters. He called them cockroaches, Rats and intoxicated young lads asking their parents to take them off the streets or else he will. He promised to fight to the end and not going anywhere. He promised to die a martyred. Amen! Libyan Ambassador to America resigns and calls on Gaddafi to stop killing innocent people.

His deputy UN envoy Dr. Muhammad Darbashi called on the world to try him on war crimes. Dr. Darbashi said condemning Gaddafi was not enough saying the world should safe the Libyan people from being massacred. His finance minister deserted him and joined the demonstrators calling on him to
step down. Libyan ambassador to china also resigned together with the envoys to India and many other countries. If he survive this then it would be worth tens of thousands of innocent Libyan death as a price as we heard from the Italian foreign minister saying about 1,000 people dead. Hopefully he may be gone by then. The cities of Benghazi where Gaddafi himself started his revolution 40 years ago fell to the demonstrators and the Libyan national flag now fly over the government building after the demonstrators burned the green flag of Gaddafi. The same is said the cities of Al Baid and Tubruk where Army joined the demonstrators against the dictator. His yellow hat terrorists are going from door to door searching and arresting people.

Dead bodies with mass murders taking place as we speech. Major general Suleiman Mahmud who defected to join the demonstrator told Aljazeera that one of the pilots sent by Gaddafi to shoot on demonstrators choose rather to jump off the plane than shoot on his own people. His Puppy Sons who joined him in ruling the Jamahiriya must all be feeling the other side of the coin now. First Son Muhammad Al Gaddafi born to his first wife is Chairman of the Libyan General post and Telecommunications company a company.

2.Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi who is groomed to be Gaddafi's possible successor and whoappeared on State TV predicting civil war if the public tried to unseat his Father. He is said to be heading the Gaddafi foundation.

3. Saadi Al Gaddafi, who is married to the Daughter of the Army Commander, is into filming he is said to have invested over 100million dollars into filming industry.

4. Mustassim Al Gaddafi is a Colonel in the Army and also National Security Adviser to Gaddafi and a commander in charge of his own unit independent of the army main unit.

5. Hannibal Al Gaddafi a mafia type psycho who was once arrested in Geneva for alleges assault on two of his servants. He is a carbon copy of his father in brutality.

6. Saif Al Arab Gaddafi who mostly keeps himself to himself in his estate palace is not a public man and very little is known about him. He is said to be extremely rich

7. Khamis Al Gaddafi trained in Russia is senior police commanders who like his brother Mustassim, held his own police unit free off the police force and answerable to him alone.

8. Ayesha Al Gaddafi at trained Lawyer who was part of former Iraqi dictator Saddam during his trial. She is married to her father's cousin who is Libya's oil tycoon.

9. Milad Abuztaia Al Gaddafi a nephew to Gaddafi by birth, the man who saved Gaddafi's life during the 1986 American bombing of his compound. He is now an adopted son and a trusted member of his inner circle. He too is much feared. With these powerful poppy men behind him, it would take time before the "mad dog" could finally be put down for good. Almost there is no country In Africa, that had not had a punch from this "Mad Dog" From Chad, Somalia Ethiopia Eritrea, ect in the east, to Gambia, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso, Togo Liberia Sierra Leone ect in the West, to Uganda, Burundi,
Congo, Rwanda ect in the center, to Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, ect in the south and Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan Niger, and even Egypt in the North, all had their share from this "Mad crazy Dog"

All Africans are holding our breath and praying for the innocent Libyan civilians whose blood flow in the streets of the Nations' cities and towns. We are with them and we call on the "mad dog" to call off his Machineries hired to repel opposition to his iron grip on power and leave before he is captured. Only time will tell. I also appeal to all descent peace loving citizens of the world especially the Super Powers and defenders of the free world to come to Libyan citizens' aid to flush terror out so that we can all breathe fresh air. This mad dog must be put down or else we shall all take a bite from him.

God is with the Libyan people and the Dog will be put down.

Yahya Jammeh’s evil killings against the Gambian people. This devil does not deserve to be called president at all.

By Bamba Mass (Human Rights Activist)

Former Army Captain Saikou Jallow
has denied being part of President Yahya Jammeh’s  special hit squad the (Jungulars) saying that he despised the atrocities perpetrated by this group against Gambians. While confirming that the said hit squad group did exist at the President’s palace in Banjul, and Kanilai, the army Captain sworn to the Holy Koran that he has never killed a single Gambian throughout his length of service with Gambia’s Armed Forces.

Mr. Jallow, a trained commando, had military training in Libya, and was named as the best third recruit in that training. He also served as an orderly for Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, before he was sacked from the military. He was dismissed for an unexplained reasons, but his commander Major General Massaneh Kinteh said in a letter written to Jallow that the decision to terminate his services was premised on an Executive directive—sanctioned by the commander-in-chief President Yahya Jammeh. He thanked God that he left The Gambia safely without being harmed—adding that he has sacrificed his life for his country by defending its citizens.

Mr. Jallow, who denied having ancestral ties with Nuimi, has since left The Gambia. He was born, and raised in Foni, he said. He fears for his personal safety. He said the jungulars are widely feared by the armed Forces Command, including the civil populace. Mr. Jallow said he has never associated himself with the jungulars, and would never do anything that would harm Gambians. He said he has always distanced himself from this particular group because he doesn’t want to be associated with a group notorious of maiming, and killing Gambians with impunity.

The jugulars, he said, are bunch of mean soldiers, who operate outside the Armed Forces. The group would come to the state house, fuel their vehicles, and hit the streets to execute missions assigned to them by their commander President Jammeh. Mr. Jallow said the list of jungulars reported by the Freedom Newspaper was very accurate with the exception of his name. He said the paper erroneously included his name on that list.

“ I even suspect that there is a conspiracy theory to smear my image because anyone who knows me will tell you that I have never been part of the jungulars, and I will never be part of them. I have always distanced myself from this group because I value my integrity, and credibility. The person who gave you the story is misleading you. It is a malicious report—aimed at smearing my person,” said Captain Jallow.

“Notwithstanding, I have forgiven the Freedom Newspaper, and the person who authored the story. God knows that I’m a decent person, who worked tirelessly to serve his country with humility. I have high regards for your paper. Please stick to your standards and avoid this type of reportage because I suspect that someone is trying to frame me for nothing.”

Mr. Jallow joined The Gambia Armed Forces on January 3rd 1999. He is a trained infantry soldier. He emerged as the 9th best recruit after his military training in The Gambia. He lived a positive, and productive life throughout his career in the military, he said.

Shortly after passing out from the military academy, he was posted at the State House. Back in 2002, he received bodyguard training. He also attended Libyan commando training. Jallow, and his co commandos spent eight months in Kanilai, the President’s home village after the completion of their commando training. He was then hired as an orderly, but he kept moving from Kanilai to the State House in Banjul.

Death of Daba Marena and others

Captain Jallow, was in Mauritania with the President including Daba Marena, the country’s former Intelligence Chief when the March 2006 foiled coup led by army fugitive Ndure Cham occurred. He recalled the late Daba Marena telling him that he (Marena) was happy that the coup was foiled. Marena also advised Jallow to continue to be loyal to the President, and his Government. Mr. Marena even warned him to desist from associating himself with soldiers plotting to unseat the Government. That was the last time I saw Daba, he said.

Captain Jallow denied taking part in the killing of Daba Marena, and four others. He said Daba treats him as his son, and it is outrageous for anyone to make such false accusations against him. He said one of the demised security detainees Ebou Lowe was his instructor in the army. Ebou Lowe trained me in the army, he added.

The March coup nearly cost Mr. Jallow his job. His close ties with Ebou Lowe, and Alieu Ceesay, led to his removal as orderly for the President. Alieu Ceesay, one of the executed army officers was also Jallow’s batch mate during their commando training.

Former Army Major Musa Jammeh, known as Maliamungu or chemical Ali had at the time given orders that Mr.Jallow should not be allowed “upstairs” ( the president’s office) by his colleagues to render orderly services to the Head of State. Major Jammeh suspected that Jallow could have been a possible loyalist of his fallen colleagues: Lowe, and Ceeasay, he said.

Mr. Jallow, was immediately transferred to the State House plainclothes unit without any reasons given for his abrupt redeployment. He recalls former Captain Tumbul Tamba, also a former jungular threatening him because of his close ties with Ebou Lowe. There, and then, Jallow was transferred again to Kanilai to serve as an orderly for the President. He was cleared from any possible subversive activities against the commander-in-chief.

Tumbul Tamba, Musa Jammeh, (both now deceased) and other jungulers were promoted after the March coup because of their role in torturing suspected coup suspects. Captain Jallow, wondered why he was not promoted at the time if indeed he was a jungular as suggested in the Freedom Newspaper publication. He said there is no iota of truth in the allegations. He said he knew the jungulars at the State House, but had no business to deal with them. Jallow also said that the President

Gambian dictator accuses Britain of sponsoring the opposition

The arrant dictator in the small West African state of the Gambia has once more accused the west as directly responsible for the woes of his country. It is indeed laughable that a man with one of the worst record of human rights in the world would point a finger at Britain accusing the former colonial master of interfering with the country’s political situation. Jammeh has suppressed all forms of opposition in his country and has stifled democracy and press freedom. Innocent people have been arrested and summarily executed because they accuse him of human rights abuses. No form of dissent is tolerated in a country that has only known Jammeh as leader since 1994.

On Wednesday, this former batman of a soldier accused Britain of backing opposition politicians ahead of 2011 elections, and said the West African nation would not be colonised again. The Gambian leader has a record of arresting dissenters, rights activists and journalists. Earlier this month a Gambian court sentenced eight people to death after finding them guilty of plotting to overthrow the government. The U.S. and Britain have criticised the jailing of an opposition member for using a megaphone at a rally without permission.

But Jammeh in his usual cockiness has said ”Why are the west not sponsoring the ruling government if they are talking about democracy?” He accused Britain of funding the opposition, but said the opposition would “never” secure a ministerial post because Gambians were not fools. “I swear that the Gambia will not be colonised twice. Let them do whatever they want to do, but this country will not be colonised twice,” he said.

.

Yahya Jammeh has ruled Gambia with an iron fist since a 1994 coup. He will face elections next year and there are four opposition parties mounting a challenge at his rather shabby presidency. Apparently, the parties all complain about harassment and in the last election in 2006 Jammeh won about 70 percent of the vote. Those who were sentenced this month include the former chief of defence staff, former director of the national intelligence agency and two businessmen.

Those arrested were accused of planning to oust the government in a drug-funded plot involving foreign mercenaries. The case followed a waves of arrests and sackings in the country. Addressing a staged rally of his supporters, Jammeh said ”My message to the West is that if you think that Africans are stupid and you can come and fool us twice, then go elsewhere in Africa and fool them but the Gambia is a no go area for you.” The people of Gambia are suffering under the rule of this serious psychiatric case and the African Union should step in and ensure the rule of law is maintained in a country that is fast sinking into an autocratic state.

It is time this mad dog leaves power peacefully or be forced out before he cercrifised all Gambians.

God bless the Gambia

History of the Mandingos and their contribution to Africa and World developments

By Bamba Mass UK

The Mandingo or Mandinka tribe is a part of one of the largest ethnic groups in the African Sub-continent.
Based in West Africa , the tribe is represented today by approximately between eleven/twenty million people. The history of the Mandingo tribe is as interesting as their culture and belief system...
This tribe migrated from west of the Niger River into the heartland of West Africa . They are believed to have been the original inhabitants of the legendary ancient city of Djenné-Jeno . The main reasons cited in their oral and written traditions were the search of better agricultural lands and the desire for territorial expansion. Their ancestors battled the Fula forces of the Kingdom of Fouta Djallon . The Mandé who account for more than twenty million people (including the Dyula, Bozo, Bissa Jahanke and Bambara) are a much diverged tribe whose contribution on the world stage cannot be ignored. On arrival, the tribe, more than half of them, converted to Islam most to the Fulani persuasions and jihad. They did not show much resistance while giving up their indigenous beliefs and accepting the Islamic beliefs. It should be noted however that some traditions had it that there was stiff resistance from some quarters of the Mandingos notably the Kaabu Nyanchos of kansala.
The Kiang koringos of Jenyeri who suffered Foday Kabba’s blockade of their fortress for years and despite starvations, they still refused to convert telling Foday if he could make a drum out of a toad skin, then they can convert to Islam. It was not until the later part of the 17th century that majority of the Mandingos were converted thus casting much of their traditional beliefs some of which still mingles with their present faith. Some of their traditional beliefs which they kept even after their conversion to Islam includes Naming a child seven days after birth and also during famine to cook food and take it to the outskirt of the village to an idolised tree recommended by the priest of the rain god some would be eaten while the rain tree would be smeared with the remnant food coupled with drumming singing and dancing asking for rain and even after they converted to Islam, they still cook food sing and danced asking God to give rain. It was not until some Mandingo orthodox Islamists tried to cast away those beliefs that most of it died out...
Mandingo culture includes rich musical and spiritual traditions. Village traditions include: Naming a child seven days after birth. Versatile 'praise' singers also called griots plays significant roles in the keeping the traditional history from words of mouth. Exquisite display of drumming and the role of the kora, a twenty-one string instrument is still deep rooted in the Mandingo society. Arranged marriages which are very common and many men lead polygamous lives while most Mandingo women used to be house-wives. Most Mandingos live in family-related compounds in traditional rural villages. Mandingo villages are fairly autonomous and self-ruled, being led by a chief/ locally called Alkalos and group of elders. Mandingos live in an oral society. Learning is traditionally done through stories, songs and proverbs.
Genitalia-modifying rituals at the onset of adulthood. Most male are taken to circumcision as they enter their youthful age into adulthood where they learnt the art of respect and many manhood braveries. Some even stayed months and months in the bush for training. The belief that God's power is in the word and not the understanding of the language is paramount that was why most Mandingo religious scholars and great marabous are partly forgotten after they die unlike the Wolofs and Fulani dwellings along trade routes. Dyoula (as most Mandingo merchants are commonly called meaning traders) have-built trading centres along the routes which later became renown towns and cities. Merchant networks within highland production areas. Supervision of overland trade in conjunction with that along the coast and interior. The Mandingo tribe mainly trade in rice, groundnuts and millet. The society is patriarchal and of the 'clan' culture. After their migration to West Africa , the Mandingos enriched the region with surplus agricultural produce and a labour-intensive economy. Using all their human resources, they contribute towards an agrarian culture. Men are also employed as butchers, tailors, drivers, carpenters, blacksmiths and soldiers thus contributing immensely to the socio economic boast of the African continent through trade and territorial expansion.
They set up home in West Africa and lived harmoniously, till the onslaught of slavery. The need for additional farm hands and the initiation or the Industrial Revolution brought many westerners to West Africa . The hunt was for people
who submitted easily and thus, from the 16th century, right through to the 18th century, more than a third of the Mandingo population was shipped out of Africa . This is the reason behind the presence of the tribe in the United States today.
During the 16th, 17th and 18th century as many as a third of the Mandingo population were shipped to the Americas as slaves through capture in conflict. A significant portion of the African-Americans in the United States are descended
from the Mandingo people. It is therefore no surprise when many of them trace their roots back to nations with Mandingo populations Within Africa .
Western education's impact is minimal then and the literacy rate in Roman script overall among the Mandingo was quite low. However, more than half the adult population can read the local Arabic script; small Qur'anic schools for children
where Arabic is taught are more common after their conversion to Islam. Though the impact of western education was the least on the tribe, more than half of them can now read and write after colonisation and post independence. With the introduction of western education, quite a number of them had western education and rose through the ranks to lead their countries to independence from colonial masters. Quite a number of them have also rose to international prominence up to position of assistant UN secretary
Today, the tribe thrives primarily in West Africa . They inhabit large areas of Gambia , Mali , Guinea , Leone , Senegal , Cote d'Ivoire , Liberia , Burkina Faso , Niger , Chad , Guinea Bissau and Mauritania . The settlements are characteristic
of: Family-centric compounds in rural settings. Preference for an autonomous and self-ruled polity. Leadership offered by a chief and a group of village elders. Oral tradition of learning and the use of stories, proverbs and songs to hand down history have made the Mandingos notable people without who Africa would have been unknown even to this date.Notable Mandinka people from Africa mainland and Country they come from

WHY doubt Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, UDP Leader's bravery against The Jammeh regime?

Wednesday, 18 August 2010 00:04
By Bamba Mass
lawyer-darboeGambians have to choose between continued state dictatorship and state democracy. Otherwise we would all remain on the peril of an eminent doom.
I have nothing to say to President Jammeh for I believe the fault lies at the very feet of us all. How can one man, with Just a few, hijack an entire nation boasting to them by saying "if you don't vote for me Gins and Devils will" or that “No development will come your way”, and yet everybody fold their arms and watch, waiting for God to intervene?
I challenge our fellow Gambians/ Cassamance APRC militants and supporters with these words: "If you want to know that your leader bluffs, come this 2011 elections, let all of you vote opposition and let us see if Jammeh would win or remain in office."
Gambians choose Ousainou Darboe to lead them against dictatorship. He was not even present at the congress when the UDP was formed. He was out of the country then. But as every true son would be expected to do, he sacrificed his personal safety and that of his family and accepted the challenge. What more bravery can anyone ask for?
It was no secret that the Jammeh administration wants to retain power at any cost, but the fact is people vote for him in elections not devils or gins as he claimed.
SOLDIERS who unlawfully took power by force of arms, intending to kill to get to the top, would never honor any promise they give as their true intentions was only to reap the nation of all the achieved dignity and respect it had as a state. They said Gambians deserve better and only Gambian sons and daughters in uniform can redeem HER. So they took power to redeem us, fooling us all with one piece of news after another. First they promised to restore democracy, then accusations after accusations crept in; then they began killing other members to pave way for them to stay. Then came the removal and replacements of Alkalolus, chiefs and commissioners, who they believed would dance to their tune and help them strengthened their grip on power and, finally, the claimed that some so-called elders wanted Chairmen Jammeh to remove military uniform and stand for election.
Today Gambians cannot even elect their own Alkalolus or chiefs any more. Now, I ask those doubters of Ousainou: have we been redeemed or enslaved?
This question is for Gambians to truly answer.
Yahya Jammeh
is on record saying that the Jawara administration stayed too long in power thus allowing rampant corruption and wide spread mismanagements of public funds, even though it was with those mismanaged funds he Jammeh was granted a scholarship at the Gambia High School by the very regime he accused.
Now, Gambians, where are we heading to? If all Gambian intellectuals and labor forces fled the country to escape Jammeh and his hench men, leaving the likes of Ousainou and other opposition leaders to face the hardship alone, who are we to criticize them? I believe that what we as Gambians in the Diaspora should do is to try to find a solution to bring all the political parties together to challenge Jammeh on a single, unified ticket, based on mutual respect and understanding, rather than character assassinations, which I believe would help only Jammeh and his group.
The UDP (United Democratic Party) came to birth to fight democratically through the mandate of the people, to restore Gambia's image and prestige in the international arena, just like other opposition parties, PDOIS, NRP, GDP, ect.
It is common knowledge that great men and women of the Gambia, most of whom are UDP militants, have suffered all sorts of tortures, death and disappearances at the hands of the junta, compared to those of other opposition parties. Despite this, the UDP continues to flourish and its leader, Ousainou Darboe, continues even more vigorous attacks on the Jammeh administration in the open. It is an open fact that his party has suffered more than any other opposition party in the history of our dear nation, yet some people would rather invariably point to the wrong direction by making personal attacks against his person, when they have fled the Gambia while he stayed to fight for us all. If that is not bravery, then I don't know what is.
I personally can vouch that Ousainou's critics do not even know him one bit. Maybe they expect that he should do more and indeed it is a fact that people expect their leaders to show bravery, even at the point of death. But what use is a dead leader? I am sure that this is why a lot of those critics over look the type of the Gambia we have all found our selves in and the dangers it entails. But if they are true to themselves, they see that Ousainou may have benefited them directly or indirectly, because there is hardly any Gambian who, either directly or indirectly, through one of your close or distant relatives, may have not been served by his profession.
I agree that criticisms are necessary; when you are chosen to lead and you accepted you are bound to expect criticisms as it helps you upgrade your weak points, and I am sure with Ousainou, having people criticizing him is a blessing to him for he is infallible as any mortal.
Gambian society need to change because some of those very critics would push the whole world to be closer to Ousainou if he were president today, just out of greed to get official appointments as most Gambians do not support a political party but their pockets. We are all witnesses to these for many former ‘Jawarites’ have turned Jammehrites overnight.
There is no dispute amongst Gambians for we are too inter mixed and we all would attest to the fact that the Gambia was far more peaceful, democratic, a heaven for even foreigners yesterday than today. How comes no one trust the other today? You cannot even talk to your brother for fear he might be an informer; why?
I would do so much injustice if I should conclude without saluting some brave comrades within the UDP, who paid so much a price and their families suffering as a result of their sacrifices to save us all;
the likes of Kebuteh Jafuneh (beaten at Denton Bridge until he was vomiting blood. He subsequently died of his injuries).
Mr. Njie from Nuimi, a UDP militant, Killed at point blank range by soldiers at Talinding High Way, when UDP was holding a rally and APRC supporters at Tombong Jatta's compound started throwing stones and causing a disruption to a lawful assembly. Soldiers were called and they came and started shooting indiscriminately, thus the young boy with a bright future was seen in a pool of blood. He too died on the spot while a lot of UDP militants suffered injuries as a result of gun shots.
Omar Barrow, also a UDP militant, was killed during the unforgetful students demonstration of the 10th & 11th April, while in the services of the Red Cross, an internationally recognized institution whose services is always needed in times of crisis. He was targeted just because of his party affiliations.
Mr. Kanyiba Kanyi, a great UDP supporter captured allegedly by the most feared NIA and never seen again. He disappeared and his family and friends feared him dead as no traces of him are known).
MAY ALLAH GRANT THESE Jambars OF UDP PARADISE IN ‘JANNAH TUL FIR DAWSI.’... Amen!
Many UDP party militants have suffered so much at the hands of the APRC and its organs of suppression. Have Gambians easily forgotten the chammoi Bridge incident? The Baba Jobe and Jara Soma attack on the UDP? … and many similar attacks on Ousainou and his party militants by the Jammeh administration?
Brave Single Nyassi was tortured and beaten all the time. Dodou Kassa Jatta, my friend, a UDP official, was arrested and tortured. Baba Drammeh had to flee the country for his life. Solo Sandeng and others were arranged before a sham court, accused of murder, when they were only defending themselves against foolish young men whom Momodou Soma Jobe and his men used to cause havoc and spread fear amongst Gambians, so that their leader can retain power for as long as he chooses.
Even Waa Juwara suffered while he was a UDP official.
Most recently, a great champion of democracy and UDP Campaign manager, Mr. Femi Peters, was unlawfully arrested, sent down one foot by the Junta's chosen employed Nigerian Judge, and sentenced through a kangaroo court to a year’s imprisonment, for organizing a rally.
Even non politicians who are brave, true sons of our land, have suffered.
Our dear uncle, brother and father, Dayda Hydara (R.I.P.), was killed cowardly for standing up against dictatorship. Ousman Koro ceesay paid with his life when he chooses to serve his country and work with the junta. Even our own brothers and sisters in uniform are not spared; a lot of them have died or disappeared. Students, too, fell to the bullet in their tens while many hundreds suffered injuries. And a lot of our brothers and sisters still languished in jail. The Government is even planning to build more prisons as Hotel Mile Two is full to the brim. People of Yundum, prepare your selves for this new Hotel.
We all knew for a fact that this administration would not stop at anything to cling to power. Ousainou's personal life and that of his family is all the time under constant threat and yet some few anti Ousainou Gambians still question his bravery? Where were those critics when all these things were happening? Why can't they go home and challenge Jammeh? If not then let's pay kudos to those brave men and women who are still there challenging Yahya Jammeh, remembering that they stayed fighting for us all, because we cannot question them when we all ran out leaving them to face the music.
AFPRC is a regime that over threw the former leader, because of corruption, they claimed. They accused the first administration of leading flamboyant lifestyles and the like, but, my God! unless I am blinded, there is more flamboyance in the Gambia today than in any African state. Not only over rich our “redeemers” are today, but they continue to plunge the nation deeper down the ocean while they remain afloat. Every Gambian is held by the throat
Gambians need to take a closer look at Ousainou Darboe. When the regime came to power, there were many Gambian intellectuals, but no one dared challenge the soldiers. So if Ousainou chose to sacrifice his safety and that of his family, I personally believe Gambians should be grateful that they have a son like him. He could have chosen to serve the Gambia by joining the men in uniform just like many other greedy Gambians did, but he chose to lead by example. It is no dispute Ousainou is a well to do lawyer who never choose personal interest above collective one. Therefore, he is truly a model leader to follow.
Therefore, Ousainou and UDP extends their hands of peace, democracy and the lost Heaven to all Gambians and foreign nationals who love the Gambia to help it unseat this regime through national and international franchise, for all Gambian citizens at home and abroad. So that THIS REGIME that cheated us all of our most peaceful, democratic and friendly nation, once called the Smiling Coast, will be history.
I also would like to salute other opposition leaders and their party militants for their bravery in this struggle. We are in the same sinking ship, so there is no time for blame game, join us to find a new and better captain who would lead us to a safer Gambia. PDOIS' Halifa, Sidia and party militants, PPP's OJ and party militants, NRP's Hamat and party militants, GDP's Gomez and party militants, Lawyer Mai Fatty and party militants and the entire media fraternity abroad. You are the voice of the broken children of the Gambia. Thank you.
The author is a UDP militant based in the UK.

If Jammeh is so brave a man, then let him walk down the streets of Gambia unescorted.Since he is claiming to possess all sorts of esoteric powers and spiritual knowledge why has he got so much bullet-proof kevlar under his robes? You wonder why he always got a handkerchief in his hands to wipe his fat oily face? Because his skin is over-heating under all those layers of kevlar and jujus!

His convoy reminds one of a convoy of Somali warlords;they got enough weapons to equip a small army! When he travels to the provinces his convoy usually icludes a a Vietnam-era truck-mounted anti aircraft battery!

Mr. Mass,

Did you really really say (write)this: "I challenge our fellow Gambians/ Cassamance APRC militants and supporters with these words: "If you want to know that your leader bluffs, come this 2011 elections, let all of you vote opposition and let us see if Jammeh would win or remain in office."

The fact that the humble writer did not offer any example to highlight Darboe's bravery is self verdict that the writer was merely pandering n grandstanding. He knows more than anyone that there is no credibility to what he is saying, but he decided to say it anyway.

We have to check journalists 4 check-book journalism. Because journalists like politicians can be manipulated by fanciful gifts doled out to them by competing parties.

You still have not proved in your long essay, where Darboe showed bravery for once. Femi Peters is still in jail and I have not heard of any political rally yet, is he till waiting for a permit? My bad, they had a congress recently.
